Double-stage reverse osmosis system for pharmaceutical-grade purified water ≈500L/h capacity
Double-stage RO system for pharmaceutical-grade purified water production
The 500L/h Medical Purified Water Treatment System is designed for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare facilities requiring USP-grade purified water. The system uses a double-stage reverse osmosis process to achieve water quality exceeding pharmacopeia standards for purified water.
The complete treatment process includes multi-media filtration, activated carbon adsorption, water softening, cartridge filtration, and dual-pass reverse osmosis. The final product water passes through UV sterilization and 0.22μm sterilizing filtration before reaching the point of use.
All pre-treatment stages utilize Fleck automatic control heads imported from the United States, enabling automatic backwashing, forward flushing, and regeneration. The system features self-diagnostic capabilities and automatic protection against low pressure, overpressure, dry run, and other fault conditions.

Multi-stage treatment process with detailed equipment functions
The automatic inlet valve opens based on the liquid level signal from the raw water tank. Low/Medium/High level controls manage solenoid valves for safe operation. A manual bypass valve provides emergency backup if the automatic valve fails.
A quartz sand filter removes particles larger than 20μm including silt, rust, colloids, and suspended solids. This protects downstream equipment and extends the service life of subsequent treatment stages.
The activated carbon filter removes pigments, odors, organic matter, residual chlorine, and pesticide contamination. This critical step protects RO membranes from chlorine damage and improves product water taste and odor.
The softening filter reduces water hardness by removing calcium and magnesium ions (scale) through ion exchange. Intelligent resin regeneration ensures continuous softening capability with minimal maintenance.
A 5μm cartridge filter captures damaged filter media and particles that passed through pre-treatment. This protects RO membranes from clogging and ensures required inlet water quality for the RO system.
Contamination-resistant Hyde Energy spiral-wound RO membranes treat raw water at 0.8-1.2 MPa operating pressure. Each membrane includes a sampling valve for monitoring individual membrane conductivity and performance.
First-stage RO product water enters a purified water tank where food-grade sodium hydroxide adjusts pH. The second-stage RO system further purifies water, with concentrate returned to the raw water tank for recycling.
Ozone sterilization provides bacteriolytic-grade disinfection that leaves no residue. It has broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, spores, viruses, fungi, and can destroy botulinum toxin for complete sterilization.
A 0.22μm sterilizing filter removes dead bacteria and foreign matter. The UV sterilizer provides additional disinfection (note: UV must be turned off when using ozone, as UV converts ozone to oxygen).
Purified water is delivered through a sanitary distribution loop to multiple use points. The system maintains water quality through continuous circulation and periodic sanitization cycles.

Complete system layout and treatment stages
Engineered for medical-grade water purity and reliability
Two-pass reverse osmosis ensures product water meets pharmacopeia standards for purified water. Second-stage concentrate recycled to raw water tank for zero waste.
Ozone sterilization + 0.22μm filtration + UV treatment provides three layers of protection against bacteria, viruses, and endotoxins.
Fleck automatic control heads enable self-backwashing, regeneration, and system diagnostics. Minimal manual intervention required.
Low-pressure switch prevents pump dry run. Overpressure switch provides emergency shutdown. Check valves prevent pressure rebound damage.
Individual RO membrane sampling valves allow real-time conductivity monitoring. HMI displays system status, flow rates, and alarm history.
Second-stage RO concentrate is returned to the raw water tank for recycling. System achieves overall water recovery of 75% or higher.
Integrated pH adjustment with food-grade sodium hydroxide maintains optimal water chemistry for pharmaceutical applications.
Modular cartridge filters, quick-connect fittings, and self-maintenance system minimize downtime and operating costs.

A: The system produces pharmacopeia-grade purified water meeting USP, EP, and ChP (Chinese Pharmacopeia) standards. The double-stage RO process ensures consistent quality with conductivity typically below 10 μS/cm.
A: When operating pressure reaches 1.2 MPa (vs. 0.8 MPa for new membranes), chemical cleaning is required. Under normal operating conditions, this typically occurs every 6-12 months depending on feed water quality.
A: For every 1°C drop in water temperature below 25°C, production flow decreases by approximately 2.1%. The system is rated at 500 L/h at 25°C baseline temperature.
A: No. UV light converts ozone to oxygen, reducing ozone's sterilization effectiveness. Use either UV or ozone treatment at any given time, not both simultaneously.
A: The first-stage RO recovery is 50-75%, and the second-stage recovery is 85-90%. Second-stage concentrate is recycled to the raw water tank, achieving overall system recovery of 75% or higher.
